The Emerson/MOTOROLA MVME188A series of VME single-board computers are available in a variety of models. The basic MVME188A consists only of a system controller (SYSCON) board and a 25 MHz main logic (CPU) board. It won't work without adding one, two, three, or four memory boards; And a HYPERmodule mezzanine containing a RISC chip.
Enhancements to the MVME188A (on the MVME188) include a single-cycle refresh to minimize VCC noise, increased on-board bypass capacitance, and on-board shielding for high-speed clock lines. In addition, the MVME188A has enhanced the orthogonal data/address line layout to reduce cross talk and changed from CMOS to TTL drivers to reduce overshoot/downshoot.
The MVME188A offers an improved RESET function. It performs a full system reset on an MVME188A board that is not a system controller and whose memory map is outside of $0. Supervisory mode and user mode access are also not allowed.
