With the rapid development of power electronics technology, the control unit of self-shunt static rectifier excitation system (SASI) has also experienced the evolution from discrete device to integrated module, and then to digital direction. This paper aims to explain its current situation and analyze its future development trend.
First of all, regarding the excitation controller, we should note that its role in the self-shunt static rectifier excitation system is crucial. The design and production of such devices have changed dramatically since the 1970s. The original control unit was mainly based on a single semiconductor component, but today, there has been a gradual shift to large-scale integrated circuits, and increasingly operate in a digital way to improve efficiency and accuracy.
In recent years, with the advancement of semiconductor manufacturing process and computer science, domestic excitation regulators have developed a variety of different styles, including semiconductor analog regulators, microcomputers (including programmable logic controllers) digital regulators and hybrid models that combine two elements, such as microcomputer (including PLC) analog regulators. It is worth noting that as early as the early 1970s, some domestic semiconductor excitation regulator products have begun to be exported to overseas markets.
However, when it comes to the biggest progress in the domestic excitation regulator industry, it is thanks to the research and development breakthrough of microcomputer excitation regulators. This work began about 20 years ago in the late 1970s. By introducing microprocessor and advanced algorithm, microcomputer excitation regulator not only greatly improves the response speed, but also can realize more complex functions, which greatly improves the performance of self-shunt static rectifier excitation system.
In general, the development history of domestic excitation controller shows China's continuous exploration and innovation in the field of power electronics technology. Although there are still many challenges to overcome, it is foreseeable that the next generation of excitation controllers will continue to move towards a more intelligent, digital and efficient direction.
